Volunteering
The Bayanihan Community Centre relies on selfless
volunteers for the centre's operation, maintenance and programs.
It discourages payment to persons for these services because
it relies on hard-working volunteers' fund-raising activities,
donations and rental income for existence and future expansion. The
centre exists solely for the community's benefit and not for
individuals to get personal benefits from it. This is in keeping with
the bayanihan spirit.
Anyone can be a volunteer at the centre as long as there is a
caring for the community and a willingness to contribute time and
effort without expecting anything in return.
The centre's volunteers provide service in manner that is in
keeping with the centre's guiding principles.
The centre benefits from volunteers by increasing its capacity
to accomplish goals. Volunteers benefit in non-financial ways because
of opportunities to:
- Instill a value of giving and caring
- Have fun while being a part of positive change in the
community
- Contribute, express solidarity, meet new people, build
contacts, and enjoy social interaction
- Fulfill a sense of empathy/ connection with a "cause"
- Develop skills and experience personal growth, learning and
satisfaction and pursue professional growth and development
- Expand professional networks, and
- Learn about a new society, country or community and build
personal empowerment and self-esteem.
