Victoria Filipino-Canadian Seniors Association
Services
The list of the activities they had from April 1988, when the
organization was established, was impressive, indicating a deep
dedication to their initial goals:
- April: reading of the Passion of Christ
(Pasyon) on Good Friday
- May: bingo fund-raising
- June: participation in VFCA's
Independence Day Dinner-Dance
- July: garage sale fund-raising
- August: picnic at Kinsmen Park with VFCA
- September: collection, packaging and
shipping of a box full of clothing and food to the Philippines for
flood victims
- October: fund-raising Halloween Costume
Dance
- December: Christmas Day dance and
donation to the Salvation Army
The regular activities, over the years, include: the
observance of Holy Week through Pabasa, a Catholic
group-prayer tradition; the Lord of Pardon Mission, another group
prayer for world peace; the sale of Filipino food at the Victoria Filipino Canadian
Association's kiosk for one day at Folkfest each year; the
organization of the annual Halloween Costume Party and Dance, caroling
during the Christmas season and the annual Seniors' Christmas Party.
The organization has also held a barn dance, participated in
VFCA's Musical Extravaganza in 1991 and 1994, the James Bay Day
Celebration and the Oak Bay Music Festival, performed at Recreation Day
at the Memorial Arena, entertained shut-in seniors as extended-care
facilities, organized Mother's Day Dinner Dance and summer picnics, and
went on a pilgrimage to the Grotto of the Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful
Mother in Portland, Oregon, in 1991.
